Do we really need to be so put together all the time?

Do we really need to be so put together all the time?

From eradicating every line in your brow to pedicures, can't we just be?

I admit, I am a low-mid maintenance woman, always have been.
I categorise myself here because I did not get any facials, spray tans, teeth whitening or manicures for my wedding. I have never had a pedicure in my life (I do some home care I’m not a complete hobbit).

I have had my eyebrows done once, and I probably should have taken a sedative in advance. I have had my nails professionally painted 3 times in my life. I’ve had maybe 4 spray tans, a couple of wax’s, 3 facials and zero botox/tweakments.

Am I encouraging this lifestyle on you - no I’m not!
Tweak to your hearts content. I adore this for you.
But for me I seem to be absolutely allergic to the ways with which many women are prescribed acts of maintenance “self care”. Perhaps I self sabotage, perhaps I grew up in a very low aesthetic environment, perhaps I (much live my home) feel that if I paint one wall all it’ll do is show up all the other areas of the house that are in desperate need of repair so it’s best to keep it all shabby chic while I hope and pray for enough money to fund the extent of modern maintenance on my aging face/body and hair.

But I still won’t increase the manicures - nail files are the antichrist.

Now, despite the admissions above, I still feel like I’m forever lashing a serum on, buying a new concealer or device for the perfect soft wave. My bathroom cupboard is like a corner of BT’s Planet Beauty as I lovingly gather small potions that will save the day. But it still doesn’t ever seem to compare with the degree of “put togetherness” that is needed in 2025 to just get by.

But is it realistic for many women to invest in head to toe maintenance all year round? Where would she get the time… where?!

So let’s break it down:

Hair: Highlights and a cut: €192 x 4 = €768
I will not part with a bit of blonde but it grows out so fast. I get it done about 4 times a year but that involves long periods of ignoring my roots.

Facials: Collagen Boost Facial €480 + Botox €500 x 3 = €1980
This could be way higher or lower depending on your needs and skin concerns but here’s a very light touch of one facial and a “bit of botox”

Teeth: Composite bonding €200 x 8 teeth + Invisalign = €6600
Sure ya can’t be going round without a perfect smile these days.
I am very keen to get some composite bonding done to a few stunted teeth and I
