The pleasure was truly mine. Comedian, Poet, Wordsmith - Aoife Duane (English and Aoife) is this week’s guest on Stretch Marks.

Kindly supported by Dove Advanced Care Body Wash.

There are many parts of this episode that I connected with - not least Aoife’s soulful articulation, her unfiltered anger, her delicacy as she flows from abundantly confident to uncompromisingly humble and even … shy.

Get to know English and Aoife on her Instagram.

For those that have seen Aoife’s comedy - you may know her observations on Ireland, or the Irish Mammy and not know that beneath that is a woman who lost her mother, whose father left the family under the cloud of a scandalous affair in the west of Ireland bringing a village of shame upon her, or that she also grew up poor, witnessing her mam give everything of herself to her family, community leaving very little left for her.

Aoife grew up knowing her job was to manage other peoples emotions, keep the peace, ask for nothing and push her needs way way down.

“I’m FIIIIIIIINNNNNNNE”

And she was until she wasn’t.
